Stripes, Chambrays, Denims ... Oh My!

Sep 25, 2016

This past week I found myself wearing a retro 4th of July outfit slap in the middle of September on one of the most gorgeous hikes in Los Angeles. This crop has been accumulating dust in my closet since the early college days, so I finally decided to take it out for a spin. It will probably be its one and only outing - while I think it's extremely cute, the sleeve style doesn't feel (or look) very comfortable.

New closet goals: give every item a shot. If it doesn't make me feel comfortable and confident, pass it along.

Cropped Flares + Deep V Suede.

Sep 19, 2016

Here it is, folks - me trying to give into trends. Or rather, me getting bored with skinny jeans, coming across this pair of cropped flares at H&M for under 5 bucks (!!!) and deciding to give it a try. I've been looking for the perfect pair of flares for a while now, and since that proved to be an impossible mission (update: found my soulmates @ American Eagle), I decided to give the cropped style a shot.

Interestingly enough, I really enjoy it and find it to be super versatile. I've already tested them out before here and was a fan of the result. The only downside: I really don't think they photograph very well. Unfortunately, neither does the top, but how you feel is 100% more important than how a look photographs. Needless to say, I felt awesome wearing this outfit - using the body chain I accumulated what, 2 seasons ago, gave the look a little spunk/ was a great way to recycle a past 'trendy' item and give it present context.

Orange Lips + Flowy Dress.

Sep 14, 2016

Yesterday I came across the one gloomy summer day LA had to offer in a while. Yes, summer - I refuse to attribute any type of fall qualities to this city. Palm trees + sunshine + 30 minutes to get to the beach = eternal disavowal for any season other than summer.

Back to the story, though - gloomy day in LA, ladies and gents! Normally, such a day would immediately scream Netflix marathon, but I suppose errand running was the next best thing. My favorite way to take on a cloudy sky is a bright color (what's new?!?), but this time around I just couldn't decide on one.

So here it is, my look of the day, featuring four different bright hues and somehow not looking like a mini pack of Crayolas. I  would call that a win. The fact that my shoes + dress came in at a combined price of under $10 ($4 dress on clearance + $5 thrifted shoes)? The ultimate win!

Chokers + Goth Vibes.

Sep 12, 2016

Sometimes I suck at being a millennial - or rather, sometimes I suck at being a living breathing human interaction-based person. It happens to the best of us, right?

This past Saturday was my "Get over it" day, complete with nighttime outings that are definitely past my bedtime. As I don't come across many occasions that call for makeup, I decided to seize the day and do a full face starring Jeffree Star's gorgeous Unicorn Blood velour liquid lipstick, a shade I've been dying to wear since purchasing it.

The top has just a hint of sheerness and I'm still not sure whether or not the goods peek through in certain lighting. I figure if there's any city I can get away with wearing it, it's LA (bonus points if the venue involves an art expo + zombie fashion show. Which it did).

Full of pieces that are casual-cool and can be dressed up or down, this outfit makes me feel confident and comfortable. I've styled both main pieces on the blog before here (top by day) and here (mom jeans by day) and both looks have been well-received by others and my thankful, fashionable body.

Trumpet Skirt + Sailor Tee.

Sep 3, 2016

Friday quickie: just your friendly neighborhood blogger wearing what could totally pass as an opening ceremony Olympic uniform. Can't decide if this look enters fashion victim territory quite yet - I love all the color, but maybe this will be one of the ones I look back on in a couple of weeks and say "What the hell was I thinking?"

Wear it loud, wear it proud, I suppose. Also I've been eyeing this shirt for at least 6 months and found it on sale in late July. Can never pass up an occasion like that.
