The Story

If I was a celebrity, this would be one of those outfits that would get me body shamed like none other. I hope this is an exaggeration and I'm overestimating how awful people can be, but I don't think I am. Luckily, I'm just another college girl on the interwebz, so here's to being anonymous enough that nobody cares. 
But let's talk about this look, because I've never worn anything like this. Crop tops have always been my number one, but they've always been complimented by a high-waisted bottom. I'm not sure if it was my boyfriend's presence (finally got to see him this weekend after 2 months), the summer weather and fall landscape that have been plaguing the area, or the simple need for a change, but this look felt refreshing. It made me feel inspired, happy and confident. 
...also made me get pumped about blogging again. Sorry about that, by the way! It's just been really difficult to find someone willing and able to take my photos, and I'd rather have a few qualitative looks than a bunch of pictures I take in my dorm room.

Full disclosure: I don't do winter weather. My body doesn't do winter weather; my wardrobe doesn't do winter weather; my hair doesn't do winter weather; and my skin REALLY doesn't do winter weather. 

In a typical year, the places I interact with are southern New Mexico, Los Angeles, and San Antonio, none of which are known for cold winters. This time around, though, San Antonio decided to mess with me.

I'm happy I picked up this black and white coat from Charlotte Russe. Coats have always terrified me a bit, as I feel they swallow up my frame. However, the belted waist and fairly body-skimming shape made it a winner in my eyes!

Happy holidays, pretty people! I almost fell off the blog post wagon today, but my lovely mom managed to snap a few pictures of my last minute Christmas shopping outfit, which I love! I'm currently spending winter break at my parents' place in Texas and basking in some lovely shopping adventures in places that I can only dream of in New Mexico (e.g. H&M, Zara, etc.).  Actually, today ended up being more of a DSW/Old Navy day. Noticed the super cute red flats I'm wearing? One of Old Navy's finest. Retailing at around $22, they're pretty inexpensive as it is- but who am I to say no to a 40% discount? Of course I had to get a black pair, too! I'm planning on spending my summer shamelessly riding the Los Angeles metro buses, so I'm on a mission to acquire as many cute and comfy pairs of work/internship appropriate shoes as possible. These get my absolute vote of confidence!

We're one blog post away from Christmas and I couldn't be happier. For once, I have yet to snoop around/get any sort of hints about what Santa's got in store, so it's going to be an exciting time!

Here is another look from my Thanksgiving break spent in Santa Fe. Usually, this would be far off anything I would wear on a day-to-day basis (all the places I interact with on a constant basis- southern NM, Texas, LA- are known for being on the warmer side of the spectrum). However, this coat is something I've been having to pull out a lot recently, even in Las Cruces, where nowadays you can't tell if by noon you'll need a coat or a spaghetti strap.

Speaking of coats, this little number and I were meant to be. I walked into a Forever 21 set on finding something cheap and practical and not bulky. I HATE winter clothes and layering, so I always need to quadruple think about the purchases I make and ensure that I actually like them enough to wear them. Anyway, this beauty happened to be the deal of the week- about $22, give or take.

The only one left was on the mannequin, and should I choose to ask someone to take it down, I had to buy it- no matter if it did not fit me. I didn't wanna risk spending money on something ill-fitting, so I decided to drown my sorrows in the fitting room with the help of about 10 other beautiful things. Long story short- as I was parting ways with at least 8 items and drowning in more tears, it was right there staring me in the eyes: my lovely red coat, exactly the size I needed (one size larger than the one on the mannequin). Can you say match made in heaven?!?

I left bae behind for winter break while I take in some sun smog in lovely Los Angeles. Though I'm already deep in some winter break adventures, I still have 3 papers to go until the semester ends. Fingers crossed those motivation levels stay decent!

I was a bit overdressed for Thanksgiving this year, but luckily, my pants were snug enough (all hail jegging material) to make room for all the delicious food I got to sink my teeth into. The beautiful peplum top I purchased especially for the occasion also helped. Seriously, guys. It was better than Christmas! The lack of good food in my system throughout this semester has been overwhelming.

The lack of good clothes, though, is a different situation. Because there was no lack of good clothes. Because I went a bit crazy with my shopping again. Because yolo sometimes I'm an irresponsible 20something year old.

My two new additions for this look were the peplum top (versatile) and the simple black pumps (also versatile), so I don't feel particularly bad. Those pumps are pretty comfy, too, and I'm in love with how pretty they look on. I guess Kohl's is the place to go for your first pair of black pumps. Who would've known?!?

There's something about spending at least one day taking care of my body that makes me feel so refreshed and invincible. Over the weekend, date day turned into 'let's be cute and active together' day with us braving the mighty rays of sunshine and exploring the basic Hollywood hike for the first time. To top it off, lunch at Lemonade, basically my new favorite place on earth, made us feel like our morning efforts weren't in vain. For about $20, we feasted on kale, chickpeas, pineapple chicken salad (?- don't quote me on that one. It had SOME sort of fancy fruit-chicken combo going on), a sandwich, and of course, a red velvet cupcake (it was tiny, alright?). For anyone salivating after reading that (or not, because my description does NOT do that place justice at all), you can find your new favorite Los Angeles food stop here. 

Style Tip: Pairing same color family brights is on trend and looks put together when you stick to two or three colors. Playing with top cutout elements will not only give the outfit an aesthetically interesting look, but will also add functionality by helping air out your body throughout the physical activity. Basically, brights + cutouts = recipe for success, at least in my world.

With beautiful weather quickly approaching, I can't wait to leave behind sedentary activities and shower the outdoors with the love it deserves. I have a feeling this summer will be spent in plenty of workout gear.

Northern New Mexico isn't the most pleasant weather-wise during this time of the year. At least, not for a summer lover such as myself. A few days ago, though, the weather was perfect- cold enough to know that it's winter, but warm enough that I wasn't absolutely repulsed by the idea of heading outside. 

I've been waiting for the opportunity to wear this soft sweater which I got on sale at Pacsun for a few weeks. I only got it because it was buy one, get one free on tops and I was obsessed with the other top that I purchased, so might as well get my free gift, right? I'm beyond happy with my choice, though. 

It's one of those sweaters that's layer friendly for winter, but can hold its ground during warmer temperatures- such a versatile piece! I can't wait to pair it up with something extremely colorful for a fun contrast!
