Hello, lovely people!

It's been a while since I've been able to take a moment, breathe, and do some blogging. While everyone around me seems to be getting busier, my semester is (finally) slowing down and I have no shame in admitting my daily activities= sleep and hardcore Law&Order: SVU marathons. I guess that's the upside to torturing myself towards the beginning of the semester.

Since I came back to school, it's been difficult not only to find time for blogging, but especially for outfit posts- there's a select number of people that I feel comfortable asking for help, most of whom are not currently around the area/ not able to help cause they have their own lives and schedules, so I was pumped when my beautiful coworker (you rock, Jocelyn!!!) took me up on a quick photo shoot during our girls' day shopping trip.

I've been rocking this scarf quite frequently since fall began, and I even turned it into a toga for a party (though now there's pin marks in it and I'm not particularly happy about that). I can't remember where I got my hands on this beauty, but I thiiiiiiiink it might be one of the (high number of) scarfs that my grandma received as a present at some point and decided to share. Few things make me happier than my grandma getting scarfs as presents- my family has great taste, and my grandma always feels generous towards her youngest granddaughter :)
This particular day was my button down's death day. After wearing it one last time, I finally parted with one of my best wardrobe friends. You can't tell in the photos, but I've my mom has stitched the crap out of the back of this, since it started ripping about a year ago. It really was time to say goodbye!

And for now, it's my time to say goodbye to you all! Thank you so much for stopping by, and I promise I can't wait to be able to spend more time working on my little blog and finding new victims volunteers to help document my outfit posts!

Have a lovely evening!

Outfit: Carrie Diaries Inspired Animal Print + Flower Power Look.

This spring break, I've been catching up on all my Carrie Diaries episodes, and it's just been the ultimate guilty pleasure. I hate all of the characters- especially the way they talk- yet I can't get enough of the visuals, so I keep on watching. And by visuals, I of course mean Carrie's dad, who is a total hunk. Partially kidding! I'm also obsessed with Carrie's print-rich wardrobe. For today's outfit post, I attempted to channel some of Carrie's printed charm into my look.
Though all three prints are relatively the same in size, they do not overwhelm because of the color scheme. At first glance, the skirt's vibrant colors pop out, balancing out the neutral animal prints. The skirt's cut and heels add height and definition to my legs, making it seem like I spent hours working on calf definition. Ladies, maybe she IS born with it. But most of the time it's just a nice pair of heels.

There is a huge problem with the current weather in Las Cruces- always too hot, always too windy. For the most part, you can't win. Luckily, my temperature tolerance is different for different body parts. In high school I wore short shorts when it was below freezing point and people questioned my sanity, but unless I had at least 3 layers and a jacket on top, I couldn't walk out of the house. Well, I think I've finally found my solution- heavy top, airy bottom!

The printed shorts are some of my favorites because of all the pairing options- any of the print colors are free game for the top! Ah, the possibilities! Here is a previous (much more colorful) look with the same shorts. The safest bet with these would be to keep your upper half monochrome (as I've done in both outfits), but for a more daring look, stick to smaller prints and at most two colors, preferably from the same color family as the shorts. And for those of us that are on the shorter side, a sturdy, chunky wedge is always a good choice.

Thanks for stopping by, and happy spring! :)

Outfit: Colorful Oversized Sweater.

While decluttering my closet over winter break, I was thrilled to find my thrifted, oversized granny sweater! It is one of those purchases that I never got around to wearing, mostly because I've been lucky to deal with warm climates recently.

Since northern New Mexico doesn't have the most swoon-worthy weather (at least in my humble opinion), knitwear was a must. Brightly colored sweaters should be a must, especially during those months when everybody seems to be getting the winter blues. This particular piece happens to have it all- it's fun, warm, and cuddly. It's clothing like this that makes the winter months more bearable for my summer loving, beach bum self!

Thank you so much for stopping by :)

When I was turning 16, I had an insane pink phase. My Sweet 16 birthday party was filled with pink napkins, plates, clothes, and presents. Since that's my most vivid memory from the teenage years, pink has always been a color that I associated with my childhood.

In an effort to adopt a more grown-up look, I've steered away from that color scheme. I'm purchasing more neutrals and reds these days. But the truth is, pink has always been- and will continue to remain- who I am. Yes, it's the stereotypical ultimate girl color, and it probably invites people to not take me seriously, but with a look that goes beyond the head-to-toe bubble gum vomit that I used to favor back in the day, I'm hoping I can still show my brights some love without being automatically linked to Barbie in people's heads.

I suppose trying to pass off leggings as pants doesn't particularly help my cause, but these are just the comfiest things I own- AND they're thick enough to not show unwanted skin. The dark bottom balances out all of the pink and purple sunshine radiating from my upper body, making the outfit more mature rather than lazy college girl status (which is definitely how I was feeling at the time).

All in all, however much I try to escape, I think pink is here to stay in my life/wardrobe, so I should probably just accept my fate.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Outfit: Sweater Dress + Earmuffs.

I've never been incredibly creative with my winter attire, usually sticking to a sweater, jeans and a jacket. This year, however, I've been trying to mix it up and go easy on the jeans. Leggings have been my go-to's for a while now, but I don't want to be stuck in that rut either. My goal is to have a healthy mix of jeans, leggings, other types of pants, and of course, skirts. For this outfit, I just wanted something comfortable and cute that I could wear and not freeze to death in (this is a difficult goal for me. I get cold incredibly easy). The sweater dress is something I have owned for a while, but never worn. I like the color, the big star on it, the texture, but I was never a fan of the silhouette of it. Now, let's just say the power of belts never ceases to amaze me.

Another thing I have been trying to do is incorporate more bright colors into my outfits. I've never been a daredevil when it comes to color (well... okay, at some point in time I looked like the 80's vomited all over me, but I'd like to forget that), so I've been trying to slowly, but surely integrate color into my outfits. For those of you who are more on the shy side, accessories are definitely the way to work that pop of color, especially bags! New York and Co. has some great ones, and TJ Maxx always brings in beautifully colored Steve Madden bags. They're a bit more expensive for my budget (most are about $40), but that's just because I'm a poor college student. I'm sure many middle class American women would not feel as bad as I would after purchasing one of those bags.

Thank you for reading my various rants about clothing!

This dress makes me so happy! I saw it in a really cute store full of beautiful dresses and simply had to own it. It was a bit more expensive than what I usually go for (about $50), but in the end I think it was worth it. I simply love the print and the shape. It's also a great dress for those days when your belly just doesn't want to cooperate. And of course, whenever I wear it, AWOLNATION's Sail gets stuck in my head.
