Style: Burlesque Bra DIY.

Sep 30, 2012

Roughly two weeks ago, I found out about a contest that is going on at a local fabric store. Since it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our entire town has been going wild with raising funds for cancer research, and this contest happens to be my favorite way of doing so. The purpose is to embellish a bra, and turn it in at the store alongside a $5 fee. The bras will be put up around the store with a donation jar. The bra that attracts the most donations wins. The grand prize is a $1,000 sewing machine. Other prizes include giftcards for the store! Here is the bra I created! My inspiration were the roaring 20's. I am beyond obsessed with flappers! Overall, I think my design ended up being a cross between flapper and cabaret. Hopefully it's nice enough to win me at least a little prize :)

I'm not quite ready to bring out the light sweaters yet, though their time is quickly approaching. Today I wore my Zara maxi dress, and I was freezing the entire time! I'm probably sick by now, but who cares? I figured I'd wait until October 1st to bring out all my fall apparel, and just celebrate the end of September! You should do the same. Enjoy those bare arms, legs and backs for a bit longer!

Outfit: Ombre Shorts + Rose Detail Top.

I'm not sure what was going through my head when I decided to wear an all-pink outfit. Normally, I would've balanced the already too colorful ombre jeans with a black top and black shoes, but apparently the little daredevil in me decided to surface itself today. All in all, this was a good outfit to keep me awake. I was  trying very hard not to fall asleep in any of my classes, but one look at the vibrant color of those shorts is all I needed to get back on track! The one thing I did realize about them is that, sadly, they are not particularly flattering on people that don't have enough junk in their trunk. In the back, the change in color occurs exactly mid-butt, making us less bootylicious girls look even flatter. I don't personally care all that much, but just a heads up for those of you that do!

I really love my Christian Siriano for Payless wedges. They're comfy, and a great college alternative to the high heels I used to wear back in high school. It's nice to still be able to pretend that I'm tall without feeling like my feet are falling off.

My outfit was really simple, focusing on basic wardrobe pieces and patterns. I combined an Aeropostale striped shirt with cutoffs gifted by my roommie, and those Christian Sirianos that I just can't get enough of. I completed the look with the help of a neon statement necklace from Rue21. It was the perfect sleeping in outfit! Cute, casual, easy to wear and style!

I found my outfit for today to be quite refreshing. It wasn't a planned outfit, since I woke up pretty late, but in the end I think it turned out alright. White is such a great color for early fall! Usually, people tend to lean towards white more during summer, but as soon as September rolls around, white should definitely be your go-to color! The sun rays complement it so well, adding an angelic touch to the entire outfit. My advice? Be the change! And wear white after labor day! And look sharp!

This dress makes me so happy! I saw it in a really cute store full of beautiful dresses and simply had to own it. It was a bit more expensive than what I usually go for (about $50), but in the end I think it was worth it. I simply love the print and the shape. It's also a great dress for those days when your belly just doesn't want to cooperate. And of course, whenever I wear it, AWOLNATION's Sail gets stuck in my head.

While Labor Day is not a particularly important holiday for me, I do appreciate it taking us out of school. I guess this was a particularly happy Labor Day, as my parents came to visit me at college. Not that I missed them a ridiculous amount, since I had just been away for 2 weeks-ish, but it was refreshing to see familiar faces, hear what my little bro had to say about school and silly 3rd graders, and, most importantly, it was awesome to have them buy me stuff, since, yeah, I'm a poor college freshman...or something.

My outfit was simple, yet eye-catching. I love me some neutrals, but the blue wedges were a nice touch of color.
