The Details

The Story

Around the beginning of high school, I bought this deep red hoodie with some Michael Jackson-esque shoulder details (see here). My mother swore that I would never wear it, but oh how wrong she was! Because you see, I have a fatal attraction to tacky sweaters- particularly, the ones that go just a wee bit over the top in shoulder detailing.

Enter this gem of a cardi that I found during work at Crossroads Trading Co. I stole so many glances until I finally gave in and purchased it, and I haven't looked back. There are very few things in life that bring me as much joy as tacky rhinestones on a chunky cardigan. What are some of your weird fashion obsessions?

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Hey, everyone!

The day has finally come to show you guys my very simple, very me outfit of the day. Not only do I have my near and dear nautical theme going on (yup, again...), but in terms of where this outfit was acquired, I feel like I'm going back to my roots!

I admit that ever since I went off to college, I found myself in a bit of a mall rut. It's incredibly easy to get caught up in all the fresh-off-the-press clothing items, especially when you're surrounded by girls looking super cute in their new crop tops and Palazzo pants in class. And this isn't to say that these new items don't have their merit- I'm a victim of the crop top, and if they weren't so cute they wouldn't have this much of a following.

However, few feelings compare to the times when your friends ask where you got something and you can say you got them for some ridiculously low price at a garage sale. (Exhibit A: earrings for about 25 cents).

I miss hardcore thrifting- not just my favorites like Plato's Closet and Buffalo Exchange, but actually having to rummage through hangers for hidden treasures in a good ol' traditional thrift store/garage sale. Going back to more conscious shopping (for myself and the environment) is a big goal of mine for the new school year (also supporting local and indie vendors). There's nothing like cute clothes that no one else is likely to own! :)

cover-up: Romania

Hello, internet friends! Today marks the last of my Mexico vacation posts, so I'll be going back to posting regular everyday type outfits for the rest of the summer. Hopefully you guys have been enjoying my boyfriend-generated images, cause my little brother is about to take those over.

I've been wanting one of these retro-looking bathing suits for YEARS, but could never justify spending that much money on a bathing suit (I will not say how much I spent on this. My poor mother would faint. I almost fainted, too). I feel like many people wouldn't consider it to be a whole lot, but you're talking to someone who's grown up on garage sales and thrift stores and taught that everything over $10 isn't worth its price. I've moved up a bit since those days, but I'll be keeping this suit for many years to come so I can justify its cost!

Anyway, the item I REALLY want to talk to you guys today is my cover-up. It's actually called an ie, and it's a traditional piece of handcrafted Romanian clothing. I've been wanting one of these for SUCH a long time (also an expensive piece of clothing if you want the real deal). My grandmother very kindly sent this to me and I was beyond ecstatic!

I feel so proud to be able to wear this top out in the world. It's so airy, and the detailing is carefully placed and beautiful! While I've seen the general style of this top very on the rise lately, the detailing on everything in stores isn't nearly as intricate as this, and I would assume most people don't have such a sentimental connection with these types of tops. However big this trend gets, I'll still view this top as an unique little part of my heritage.

Thanks so much for stopping by! :)

I have the absolute hugest love affair with this beautiful maxi dress I got in Romania a few summers ago! It took a lot of thought, as the dress was around $60, but to this day I believe it was a worthy purchase. Ironically, $60 is nothing out of the ordinary for the average Romanian girl shopper, but as someone who comes from the land of discounts, it just kills me to spend that much on a single item!

The print is the attention-grabber here, so it was important to keep the outfit details as understated as possible. My super cheap golden necklace (comes with earrings) from Jewelry Box was the perfect addition! Since the necklace hangs pretty tightly around my neck, it worked perfectly with the one-shoulder aspect of the dress.

I'm also wearing understated strappy sandals (no detail picture of those- but check them out in basically every outfit post from the past month), and a neutral clutch. The only piece that competes for attention is my straw hat, a necessity for the hot sunny Mexico times.

Overall, this dress might just be my favorite possession!

Outfit: Jean Shirt and Leggings as Pants.

sunglasses: Romania
earrings: Icing
denim shirt: Forever 21
belt: thrifted
bag: Romania
leggings: Body Basics
loafers: Charlotte Russe

Just a quick casual wear post! Wearing leggings as pants always seems to be controversial among the body-shaming Facebook masses, but that shouldn't stop you from wearing what you find comfortable. This outfit is perfect for running late coffee dates during the transitional spring weather. It even looks like actual time was put into it, when in reality, it's just throwing together the most basic pieces in one's closet. My absolute favorite is the bag, which I borrowed from my mother. It's just such a great everyday bag that goes well with anything and everything, but mommy refuses to share. I still have two days until I go back to school, so continuous puppy eyes treatment will occur. If you've got it, flaunt it, I suppose. Wish me luck!

Thank you for stopping by! :)
